Ever wonder what it’s like behind the scenes at League? What type of people make up our ever growing team, and what do they do to help us build a product that is revolutionizing health insurance, employee benefits and workplace wellness? Starting today, you can stop wondering. Each month, we’ll be featuring one of our talented team members in our League Employee Spotlight series.
Meet Breanna, League’s Senior Product Manager who is always putting the needs of our customers first. Breanna oversees the planning, development and execution of League’s Member Experience Product Team. She’s constantly evaluating customer’s pain points and needs from the League platform and ensures that the voice of the customer is heard throughout the design and development process.
It’s her commitment to excellence and up-for-anything attitude that helps make League such a great place to work.
Here’s what she has to say.
1. What drew you to League and to your role?
The mission is what drew me in, the team is what sealed the deal.
I was looking for a company that was solving really hard, meaningful problems, and the healthcare and insurance space is full of them.
I knew almost nothing about insurance (on my first day, I actually googled “What is an insurance underwriter?”), but some of the most successful, disruptive companies in the world have been built from a group of smart, industry outsiders, brought together to tackle a problem. That’s what we have at League — we’re bringing a new approach of solving problems to a tired industry.
2. What do you love about your job?
I’m learning something new every day from very smart people.
3. What are the key assets to kick ass at League or in today’s start-up environment in general?
Get things done. There is no task or problem too small or too big. Get in there, get your hands dirty, and get it done.
4. What would you say to a recent grad looking to either get into League, or follow your career path?
Talk less, do more. Sure, grabbing coffees with people can sometimes be valuable, but getting involved and volunteering with local tech events (I personally am a huge fan of Ladies Learning Code, but I might be biased) is the best way to get to know people in the industry, all while showing you can execute and get it done.
5. Maintaining good personal health is vital to ensuring employees are able to perform at their highest standard. What is it about your health regimen that elevates you to be your best self at League?
Biking to work every day. Nothing wakes you up more like some exercise (and biking in Toronto traffic). By the time I get to work I’m full of energy and ready to take on the day.
6. What is your favourite perk at League?
Definitely the yoga classes in our office. I’m an extremely busy person, and I find half the battle is getting yourself to class. When the class comes to you, there is no excuse.
7. What is the one material item you would bring with you to a deserted island?
My phone so I can meditate with Headspace and listen to Spotify while I wait for my Lyft to come get me off the island.
8. Tacos or Pizza?
Tacos, extra spicy with a Margarita on the rocks.
