On my quest to the Olympic Games, I am trying to do everything I can to ensure I am the best version of myself. Over the last few months I have had the pleasure to work with many of the health providers on League – who have all helped fine-tune my preparation for the games.

Follow this blog series as I share how I’m working with each professional in my League!

First up: Amrit Singh – Acupuncturist.

Acupuncture can sound frightening because it involves “needles”; however I am here to vouch that these “needles” are nothing to be afraid of. I often fail to recognize when the needle has gone in, yet I get to reap the benefits and power of this remarkable practice.

In the few months Amrit and I have worked together she has managed to stimulate muscular healing, bone health, immune health and recovery from minor injury trauma. For example, last month a bad cold was circulating around my team and training facility. When I started to feel the effects of the cold, I went to see Amrit immediately. On the table she focused on triggering a big immune response while also helping to clear my congestion. Moments after she placed a needle near my sinuses, I felt the pressure clear. In the following days, while some of my teammates took 2 or more weeks to recover, I was on the track and feeling better within the week.

Amrit’s acupuncture technique has also aided in a speedy recovery from a minor hamstring pull. When I left training that day, I was very worried this injury would prevent me from training and I couldn’t even body-weight squat without pain. Within hours of a treatment with Amrit I could squat and engage my hamstring with little to no pain.

Week after week, the work I do with Amrit continues to amaze me. While it seems almost too good to be true I encourage everyone to give acupuncture, and specifically Amrit, a shot. The use of this treatment is so vast and is seriously magical!
