SCALE AI, Canada’s artificial intelligence (AI) cluster, today announced a historic $128.5 million CAD investment to support 44 new applied AI projects. The announcement of this record-breaking funding round—the largest to date—took place at League headquarters in Toronto. Together with The Honourable Evan Solomon, Canada’s Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation, government officials and industry leaders gathered to celebrate the accelerating momentum of homegrown AI deployment.
This latest round brings total commitments over the past six months to more than $226 million CAD, signaling a rapid expansion of AI adoption across the nation. The 44 newly funded projects, which includes League Agent Teams™, highlight a growing trend of interprovincial collaboration and showcase the diverse capabilities of applied AI, including machine learning for prediction, computer vision for image and video analysis, and generative AI for conversational interfaces.
The investment targets critical sectors of the Canadian economy, supporting initiatives ranging from automating municipal infrastructure management and accelerating pipeline inspections to helping electric utilities respond to outages and deploying generative AI to support news coverage across the country. With a 2:1 private-to-public investment ratio, these projects reflect a firm commitment from the industry to adopt made-in-Canada AI solutions that enhance operational efficiency and productivity.
“Artificial intelligence is opening new opportunities for Canadians, helping us work more efficiently, tackle real-world challenges and improve our living standards. Applied AI is where that impact is felt most clearly: on factory floors, in supply chains, in hospitals and across the companies building the next wave of innovation. Through these new SCALE AI Cluster investments, our government is supporting leading Canadian companies deploying innovative AI solutions responsibly and strategically, in collaboration with Scale AI, Canadian innovators, academia and communities—driving economic growth and reinforcing Canada’s leadership in applied AI,” said The Honourable Evan Solomon, Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario.
“We are at a pivotal moment for AI and Canada’s global leadership in this field. Now is the time to reap the benefits of our early investments in AI,” said Julien Billot, CEO of SCALE AI. “Today’s announcement underscores the need for Canada to double down on the commercialization and the rapid, yet responsible, adoption of enterprise AI. The projects announced this week will help build more competitive companies and, ultimately, a stronger and more resilient economy.”
SCALE AI’s Investment in League Agent Teams™
As part of this cohort, League has secured funding to develop next-generation AI-powered tools to transform how people access and use their healthcare benefits. By converting self-reported and wearables data into insights and categories that LLMs can understand and action, users will more quickly understand their coverage, find and book the right care, receive personalized recommendations, and be supported in achieving their health goals.
League Agent Teams™ will handle routine questions and tasks automatically and identify where conversations need to be escalated to human support, ensuring human hours are spent where they are most needed.
This will make the experience smoother and more engaging for users, while also improving efficiency, reducing costs, and demonstrating clear value for organizations that provide these benefits.
“This initial investment by SCALE AI in League’s agentic capabilities not only accelerates critical updates to the Canadian healthcare experience, but more importantly, accelerates the timeline for the millions of Canadians currently on our platform to access the seamless, personalized care they deserve,” said Michael Serbinis, Founder & CEO of League. “The solutions developed here will then be rolled out to League’s 63 million contracted users worldwide.”
