Re-connect with yourself, your loved ones & nature

The next few days of this program are all about connecting. So set your inner social animal free to achieve the mental wellness goals below.

First things first – focus on you! You know what they say, you can’t love others until you love yourself. Once you’ve had a heart-to-heart with little ol’ you, it’s time to catch up with the important people in your support network.

And don’t forget what a walk outside can do you for your mental wellness! Ready to be well? It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3….


Goal for Day 4: Meditate for 10 minutes.

Meditation has been shown to help people stress less, focus more, sleep better and even improve relationships. If the idea of meditating makes you feel silly or uncomfortable, remind yourself that you are doing important work: You are training your mind to become more aware. That’s mindfulness, and it’s a skill you need to learn just like anything else. If meditation just isn’t for you, why not schedule 10 minutes of ‘quiet time’ into your day? Give yourself permission to take some time out to reflect on how things are going in your life.

Pro Tip! Never meditated before? Not a problem! Try the free Headspace app. Not sure you’re ready to do this on your own? Why not start with some guided meditation, where all you need to do is sit back, close your eyes and listen.  


Goal for Day 5: Call a loved one.

With life keeping us so busy, it’s hard to stay connected with the people who make up our modern-day ‘village.’ But taking the time out to connect with someone in your support network (even if it’s just to say a quick “hi!”) positively impacts both our mental and physical health. Whether you meet up with an old friend for a coffee on your lunch break or schedule a 15-minute call with grandma in the evening, you won’t regret taking the time out of your busy day to re-connect with someone you love.

Goal for Day 6: Go for a 10-minute walk.

Carve 10 minutes out of your day for some fresh air and a little bit of exercise, and you might be surprised at how good you feel. It doesn’t matter where you do ityou can stroll around your office building, walk the dog in a nearby park, or explore the neighbourhood. Just make sure to get outside and get moving. Not only is it great to add a little bit of unscheduled activity into your day, but it’s the perfect opportunity to centre your mind if you’re having a particularly stressful day. Try practicing a little mindfulness by focusing on the now. Do you hear sounds of nature or busy city streets? How does the sun, snow or wind feel on your cheeks? What does that latte you’re sipping on smell and taste like? You get the picture… now try it yourself!
